TOTO TSPTM – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I run a hand shower and a showerhead off the TOTO TSPTM valve?
Not independently. The TSPTM is the no-diverter version, so it controls one outlet at a time and cannot switch between a showerhead and a hand shower on its own. It will feed showerheads, hand showers, tub spouts, or body sprays, but if you want to select between two outlets at the valve you need a pressure balance valve with a diverter instead.
2) Does the TOTO TSPTM valve have built-in service stops so I don't have to shut off the whole building?
Yes, integral service stops are part of the valve. For a property manager working in an occupied building that matters: you can isolate the one shower for cartridge service without killing water to other units. It also provides positive shut-off.
3) Is the TOTO TSPTM an anti-scald valve, and can the max temperature be set?
It is a pressure balance valve with anti-scald protection and an adjustable temperature limit stop, so you can cap the maximum outlet temperature at the valve after install. Pressure balance means it holds the hot/cold ratio when another fixture in the building draws water, preventing the temperature swing when a toilet flushes.
4) How many ports does the TOTO TSPTM valve body have?
Four ports: hot and cold inlets plus outlets, in a 1/2 inch NPT thread. Plan the rough-in so all four are reachable and the stops stay accessible behind the trim plate.
5) Will the TOTO TSPTM work on a low-flow showerhead?
It is optimized for a minimum flow rate of 1.5 gpm, so modern water-conserving heads at or above that rate will operate it correctly. Going below that can leave the balancing spool sluggish.
6) Is the TOTO TSPTM valve body brass or plastic?
Solid brass, corrosion resistant. That is the construction institutional and multi-family specs usually call for on an in-wall rough valve, since replacing a failed body means opening the wall.
