TOTO THP4229 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THP4229 part - an aerator or a gasket?
TOTO THP4229 is supplied as an SBR rubber gasket associated with the 1.5 GPM aerator assembly. The part itself is the gasket: 18.6 mm outside diameter, 13 mm inside diameter, 1.5 mm thick. If you need the metal aerator insert or housing, this is the sealing washer that goes with it, not the aerator body.
2) My TOTO faucet is dripping from the spout tip - do I need this gasket or a whole aerator?
A weep or seep at the spout outlet, rather than from the valve, usually means the washer behind the aerator has flattened or split. THP4229 is that seal for the 1.5 GPM aerator. If flow is uneven or spraying sideways instead of leaking, the screen insert is clogged or cracked and the gasket alone will not fix it.
3) What size is the TOTO THP4229 gasket?
It measures 18.6 outside diameter, 13 inside diameter and 1.5 thick, as printed on the spec (OD18.6, ID=13, H=1.5). Measure the seat in your spout outlet or aerator housing against those figures before swapping it in.
4) Is TOTO THP4229 the same part across finishes?
There is only one version of THP4229. It is a rubber sealing gasket, so there is no plated or decorative variant to match a polished chrome or brushed nickel spout. Order the single part number regardless of what finish the faucet is.
5) Is the THP4229 gasket material OK for potable water faucet use?
It is an SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) gasket, the elastomer TOTO specifies for this 1.5 GPM aerator seal. SBR is a flexible sealing rubber, so it compresses into the aerator seat rather than relying on a hard face. Keep it dry-threaded and hand-tight, no sealant needed.
6) How many THP4229 gaskets should I order for a multi-unit lavatory retrofit?
One gasket per faucet outlet. Property managers servicing a floor of identical TOTO lavatories should count fixtures, not faucets with multiple handles, since each spout takes a single 1.5 GPM aerator seal. Ordering a few spares is normal on this part because it is small and easily lost during a trap or spout service.
