TOTO THU776S-A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) My TOTO dual flush toilet keeps running, do I need a new drain valve or a new fill valve?
Two different parts, two different symptoms. Water trickling into the bowl with the tank never reaching its shut off level points at the drain valve seal, and THU776S-A is the drain valve replacement for TOTO dual flush tanks. Water running over into the overflow tube, or the tank filling past its line, points at the fill valve instead, which is a separate part. Dye in the tank tells you which: if colour shows up in the bowl without flushing, it's the drain valve.
2) Can I use the THU776S-A drain valve on a single flush TOTO toilet?
No. The THU776S-A is built for TOTO dual flush tanks, where the valve has to open two different ways for the partial and full flush volumes. A single flush TOTO uses a different flush valve and this one will not interchange. Check the model number stamped inside the tank or on the bowl before ordering tank trim.
3) Is TOTO THU776S-A a genuine TOTO part or an aftermarket equivalent?
It's the genuine TOTO service part, ordered by TOTO's own part number THU776S-A. TOTO tank trim is model specific, so a universal flush valve from a big box store will not seat or seal in a TOTO dual flush tank. Order by the THU number to get the right one.
4) What tools or extra parts do I need to swap a TOTO dual flush drain valve?
It's a tank off job on most TOTO two piece toilets: shut the supply, flush and sponge the tank dry, disconnect the supply line, then lift the tank off the bowl to reach the valve nut and the tank to bowl gasket underneath. Plan on replacing the tank to bowl gasket and bolt washers at the same time, since they're compressed and rarely reseal. The THU776S-A covers the drain valve itself; the gasket kit and any supply line are ordered separately.
5) I manage a building with several TOTO dual flush toilets, is it worth stocking this drain valve?
For a property with a run of TOTO dual flush fixtures, the drain valve is the part that fails first and the one that quietly wastes the most water between service calls. Keeping a couple of THU776S-A valves on the shelf turns a running toilet into a same day fix instead of a parts order. Confirm the tanks across your fleet are the same TOTO dual flush model before standardizing on one THU number, since TOTO trim varies by model.
