TOTO THP4090#BN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO part THP4090#BN?
THP4090#BN is the hot-side handle cap, the small trim cap that fits over the hot handle on a TOTO faucet or shower valve. It is a trim piece only, not a valve or cartridge, so if the handle is loose or leaking the cap is not the fix.
2) I need the cold handle cap too, is this the same part?
No. THP4090#BN is specified as the hot cap. Hot and cold caps are separate part numbers on TOTO trim because of the index marking, so for the cold side you need to order the matching cold cap for your trim series in the same #BN finish.
3) Does the #BN on TOTO THP4090#BN mean brushed nickel?
Yes. The suffix after the hash is TOTO's finish code, and #BN is their brushed nickel. Order the cap in the same finish code as the rest of your trim so the hot handle doesn't read a different color than the spout and escutcheon.
4) Can a property manager swap a TOTO handle cap without shutting off the water?
Yes. A handle cap is surface trim that sits on top of the handle, ahead of anything holding pressure, so replacing THP4090#BN does not open the water path. No supply shutoff is needed for the cap itself. If you have to pull the handle to reach it, that's a different job.
