TOTO 6BU4054 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO 6BU4054 part?
It's the retainer nut for a TOTO thermostatic valve, the threaded nut that holds the thermostatic cartridge assembly in place. TOTO part number 6BU4054. It is a replacement component, not a complete valve or trim kit.
2) Will the 6BU4054 fix a TOTO shower valve that drips or won't hold temperature?
Only if the problem is the retainer nut itself. The 6BU4054 is strictly the nut that retains the thermostatic valve assembly. If the cartridge is scaled up or failing to regulate, you need the thermostatic cartridge, not this nut. Order the nut when it's stripped, cross-threaded, or lost during service.
3) Is the TOTO 6BU4054 retainer nut used on shower valves or tub valves?
Both. The 6BU4054 retainer nut is specified for TOTO shower and tub thermostatic valve applications.
4) Does the TOTO 6BU4054 come with the cartridge, O-rings, or trim?
No. 6BU4054 ships as the retainer nut alone. Seals, the thermostatic cartridge, and any escutcheon or handle trim are separate TOTO part numbers.
5) Is there more than one version or finish of the TOTO 6BU4054 retainer nut?
One version only. 6BU4054 is a single part number with no finish or size options, so there is nothing to specify when ordering beyond quantity.
6) I manage multiple buildings with TOTO thermostatic shower valves. Is this a part worth stocking?
It's a reasonable MRO shelf item if your units run TOTO thermostatic shower or tub valves. The retainer nut is the piece most often damaged or lost when a tech pulls a thermostatic cartridge for descaling, and a stripped nut puts the valve out of service even though the cartridge is fine.
