TOTO THP4850#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO THP4850 handle assembly include the thermostatic valve or the rough-in?
No. THP4850#CP is the handle assembly only. The thermostatic valve body and rough-in stay in the wall and are ordered separately, as is the escutcheon if that is also damaged. If you're building a new Vivian thermostatic shower from scratch, this part alone won't get you there.
2) Can I replace just the handle on a TOTO Vivian thermostatic shower valve without opening the wall?
That's exactly what this part is for. THP4850#CP is a handle assembly sold as a service part, so the repair is a trim-side job: the valve body and supply connections stay undisturbed in the wall. Property managers running a fleet of identical Vivian showers can stock the handle and fix a broken one without a plumber cutting into tile.
3) How do I confirm TOTO THP4850#CP is the right handle for my shower before I order?
Two things have to line up: the trim must be TOTO Vivian, and the valve must be thermostatic rather than volume control or a diverter. TOTO prints the part number on the original trim packaging and often on the escutcheon paperwork; THP4850 is the handle assembly designation, with #CP for polished chrome. If the existing handle is a different finish, order the matching finish suffix rather than this one.
4) Will the TOTO THP4850 handle fit a TOTO volume control or diverter trim?
It is specified for the Vivian thermostatic trim. Thermostatic, volume control, and diverter handles use different stems and stop arrangements within TOTO's Vivian line, so match the handle to the function of the valve you actually have before ordering. If the trim you're replacing is a volume control or a diverter, THP4850#CP is the wrong service part.
5) What finish does TOTO THP4850#CP come in?
Polished chrome, which is what the #CP suffix denotes in TOTO's part numbering. That matters on a repair: TOTO codes finish into the trailing suffix, so if the other Vivian trim in the bathroom is brushed nickel or another finish, this chrome handle will not match and you want the corresponding suffix instead of #CP.
