TOTO THU398#PN-A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is a left-hand trip lever interchangeable with a right-hand one on the same tank?
No. A left-hand lever like the THU398#PN-A is built with the arm and threading oriented for a left-side tank hole, and a right-hand lever will not seat or pull the flush valve correctly from that position. Check which side the existing handle comes through before ordering, and match the hand exactly.
2) What finish is the Toto THU398#PN-A trip lever?
Polished nickel. The #PN suffix in the part number is Toto's polished nickel code, so it matches polished nickel supply stops, faucets, and tank trim on the same washroom. If your other fittings are chrome or brushed nickel, order the matching Toto suffix for that finish instead of this one.
3) Do I need any tools or extra parts to install a Toto trip lever?
A trip lever like the THU398#PN-A is supplied as the handle and arm assembly and threads into the tank hole with its own mounting nut. You reuse the existing flush valve chain, hooking it into the arm and adjusting the slack so the flapper seats fully. No tank removal and no supply line work is involved; the tank lid comes off and the old lever nut backs out by hand or with light pliers.
