ABUS Padlock brass 75/60

The brass padlock 75 has an automatic locking system and a reversible key.

  • Exceptionally easy to use - the key fits no matter which way round it is
  • Self-locking: locking without key by pushing down the shackle
  • Paracentric keyway for increased protection against manipulation

WITH REVERSIBLE KEY

The brass padlock 75 has a reversible key.

Padlock 75 is great for securing doors, gates, cabinets, lockers, toolboxes, basements, sheds, switchgear, and more from theft. The lock body is made of solid brass, the shackle of hardened steel with NANO PROTECT™ corrosion protection. A high-precision locking mechanism is installed, which operates with a reversible key. To secure items of medium value or objects at moderate risk of theft, sizes 75/30 to 75/40 are suitable. For objects of higher value, or if the risk of theft is high, we recommend choosing a padlock between sizes 75/50 and 75/60. The 75IB variant is also weatherproof and therefore a sensible solution if you want to protect your belongings in sea and port areas.

  • Solid lock body made from brass

ABUS 75/60 KA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the ABUS 75/60 padlock shackle fit through my hasp or chain?
The 75/60 shackle is 10 mm in diameter, so the hasp eye or chain link has to pass a 10 mm bar. Clearance under the shackle is 33 mm horizontally and 34.5 mm vertically, which is the space you have for the hasp staple, chain, or cable you are locking through. The body measures 60 mm across.
2) Should I buy the ABUS 75/60 or a smaller size in the 75 series?
ABUS splits the 75 series by risk level. The 75/30 through 75/40 are meant for goods of medium value or average theft risk. The 75/50 and 75/60 are the ones ABUS points to for higher value goods or where theft risk is high, so the 60 mm body is the top of that range. If you are locking a tool crib, gate, or switchgear on an exposed site, that is the 75/60's job.
3) Can I get ABUS 75/60 padlocks keyed alike across a building?
Yes. The 75/60 is ordered either KA (keyed alike, one key opens every lock in the group) or KD (keyed different, each lock its own key). Property managers standardizing gates, lockers, and utility cabinets normally take KA; anywhere you need separate accountability per lock, take KD. The reversible keyway carries up to 150,000 differs, so large KD groups are workable.
4) I need a padlock that takes our facility's interchangeable core - is the ABUS 75/60 the right choice?
No. The ABUS 75/60 is a fixed-cylinder brass padlock with a high-precision reversible keyway offering up to 150,000 key differs, ordered keyed alike or keyed different. If the lock has to accept your existing core keying system, the Sargent 60-858-2 is a removable core padlock with a 2 inch stainless steel shackle from the 758/858 Series. The Medeco 521 G8R is supplied less pop-out cylinder in a solid stainless steel body for the same reason - you fit the cylinder your system uses.
5) What is the closest brass-body padlock alternative to the ABUS 75/60?
The Schlage KS23D/KS23F is the nearest straight equivalent: a brass padlock with a 5/16 inch diameter shackle. The ABUS 75/60 has a 10 mm shackle diameter and a 60 mm body width, so the Schlage runs a thinner shackle. The 75/60 body is solid brass with a hardened steel shackle carrying NANO PROTECT plating, and it self-locks by pushing the shackle down. Another brass-body option is the Medeco 5260 of the 52 Series, which uses a 7/16 inch shackle and M3 key technology in a satin chrome finish.
6) We want audit trail and access control on a gate padlock - can the ABUS 75/60 do that?
No. The ABUS 75/60 is a mechanical brass padlock with a reversible mechanical key and a paracentric keyway for added manipulation resistance. For an electronic credential instead of a mechanical key, the Medeco 54515G XT is an electronic indoor/outdoor padlock with a 5/16 inch shackle diameter, supplied with cylinder and non-key retaining, from the System Series.
7) Does the ABUS 75/60 padlock lock without the key?
It does. The 75 is self-locking: push the shackle down and it latches, no key needed to secure it. The key is only for opening. That suits crews who lock up in a hurry, but it also means you can shut the lock with the key still inside the enclosure, so make a habit of keeping the key on the person, not on the shelf.
8) Is the ABUS 75 key reversible, and why does that matter for maintenance staff?
The 75/60 uses a reversible key, so it goes into the cylinder either way up. For maintenance techs working one-handed on a ladder or in the dark, that removes the fumbling. The keyway is paracentric, which is the profile cut used to make picking and manipulation harder, and the mechanism is double bolted, meaning the shackle is held on both legs rather than just the heel.
9) I need more clearance than the ABUS 75/60 gives. What are my options in the same family?
Vertical clearance on the 75/60 is 34.5 mm, so if your hasp or chain needs more room the answer is a long shackle model rather than a bigger body. ABUS builds the 75 in HB long shackle versions: 30HB30, 40HB40, 40HB63, 50HB50 and 50HB80. The 50HB80 gives the most shackle height in that list. Note those are 50 mm and smaller bodies, so you trade some body size for the extra reach.
10) Is the ABUS 75/60 key retaining?
No. Key retention in the 75 family is called out only for the 75IB/40 and 75IB/50. If your spec requires the key to be trapped in the lock while it is open, so an employee cannot walk off with a padlock left hanging, look at a key retaining model instead. The Sargent 758 is a key retaining padlock in satin brass; the Sargent 858 is the non key retaining version of the same design.
11) How does the ABUS 75/60 brass padlock compare to the Schlage KS23 brass padlock?
Both are brass body padlocks. The ABUS 75/60 carries a 10 mm shackle, which is a heavier bar than the Schlage KS23D/KS23F at 5/16 inch, and the Medeco 54515G indoor/outdoor padlock is also 5/16 inch. If shackle diameter is what you are buying on, the 75/60 is the thicker of those three. The Medeco 5260 goes the other way with a 7/16 inch shackle.
12) For a coastal or marine site, should I use the ABUS 75/60 or something else?
The ABUS 75/60 has a solid brass body and a hardened steel shackle with NANO PROTECT plating plus non-corrosive internal components, and ABUS points to the 75IB variant specifically for sea and port areas. If you want an all stainless steel body instead, the Medeco 521 G8R is a weather-tight padlock with a solid stainless steel body. The Sargent 858 also pairs a stainless steel shackle with a US4 satin brass finish.
13) Does the ABUS 75/60 hold the key while the lock is open, and what if I need key retaining?
The 75/60 is self-locking - the shackle locks by pushing it down without the key - and ABUS lists key retention specifically for the 75IB/40 and 75IB/50. If key retaining is a requirement so staff cannot walk off with an open padlock and a loose key, the Sargent 758 is a key retaining standard padlock in a US4 satin brass finish. Where non-key-retaining is preferred, the Sargent 858 and the Sargent 82-856, which has a 2 inch by 2 inch brass case with a stainless steel shackle, are both non-key retaining.
14) My hasp needs a taller shackle than the ABUS 75/60 gives me - what are my options?
The 75/60 offers 33 mm of horizontal shackle clearance and 34.5 mm of vertical clearance. Within the ABUS 75 family, long shackle HB versions are built as 30HB30, 40HB40, 40HB63, 50HB50 and 50HB80 if you need more vertical opening. Among other brands, the Sargent 60-858-2 carries a 2 inch stainless steel shackle.
15) Is the ABUS 75/60 padlock rated for commercial use or is it a consumer lock?
It is classified as commercial door hardware, and the intended applications are commercial ones: doors, gates, cabinets, lockers, tool boxes, cellar windows, sheds and switchboards. MRO and facilities buyers use the 75/60 at the high-risk end of the 75 range.
16) Can I order extra keys with the ABUS 75/60?
The 75 series is offered in a 5 key configuration as well as the standard key count, which is worth specifying up front if several techs need access to the same keyed alike set. Ordering the larger key pack at purchase is simpler than trying to duplicate a paracentric reversible key later.
17) Is a smaller ABUS 75 the same security as the 75/60, or should I step to a different lock?
ABUS positions the 75/30 through 75/40 sizes for goods of medium value or average theft risk, and the 75/50 and 75/60 for goods of greater value or high theft risk - the 75/60 is the largest at 60 mm body width with a 10 mm shackle. If the exposure calls for a different platform rather than a different size, the Sargent 82-856 uses a KESO Series cylinder in a 2 inch by 2 inch brass case, and the Medeco 5260 uses M3 key technology in a 52 Series brass body.
