1) Will the ABUS P550 plug lockout fit a large high-current plug, or is it only for household plugs?
The P550 is the large size, built for high-current and high-voltage plugs rather than standard household cord caps. Its interior diameter is 2 29/32 inches, so the plug body and cap have to pass inside that. ABUS makes the plug lockout in two sizes, and the smaller one is the one to use for ordinary standard plugs. Measure the widest point of the plug body before ordering.
2) How many padlocks can go on an ABUS P550 power plug lockout for a group lockout?
Up to four padlocks at once, with shackle diameters up to 23/64 inch. That covers a small crew each applying their own lock during maintenance, so the cord cannot be reconnected until the last person removes theirs. Padlocks are not part of the lockout, so order them separately.
3) Is the ABUS P550 plug lockout safe to use on an energized 550V circuit?
The body is polypropylene, a non-conductive dielectric plastic, which is why this style of lockout is used on live power connections. It works by enclosing the plug so the machine cannot be reconnected to the supply, not by breaking the circuit itself. The plug should be pulled from the receptacle first, then enclosed and locked.
4) Can a P550 lockout be used on a plug and coupler connection in the middle of a cord run?
