Accentra 3549 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Accentra 3549 drop plate used for?
The 3549 is a mounting plate that lets an Accentra 3301 or 3501 Series door closer mount on a door whose top rail is too narrow to take the closer body directly. The plate drops the closer down onto usable surface so the shoe and arm land where they should. It is an exposed back design, meaning it is for surface conditions where the closer is not concealed.
2) Will the Accentra 3549 drop plate work with a closer from another series or another brand?
No. The 3549 is made specifically for Accentra 3301 and 3501 Series door closers, and the hole pattern matches those bodies. If your closer is a different series or a different manufacturer, order the drop plate that manufacturer publishes for that closer instead.
3) Do I need a drop plate at all, or can I mount the closer straight to the door?
If the top rail is wide enough to take the full closer body and its mounting holes, no plate is needed. The 3549 exists for the case where it is not, typically an aluminum storefront or a door with a narrow top rail, or where an exposed back condition prevents standard mounting. Check the rail on the actual opening before adding the plate to the order.
4) What finishes does the Accentra 3549 drop plate come in, and can I match the closer on my other doors?
Six painted finishes: 689 aluminum, 690 dark bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 black, 694 medium bronze and 696 satin brass. Those are the standard closer finish numbers, so a property manager standardizing a building can order the plate in the same number already specified on the closers.
5) Is the door closer included with the Accentra 3549?
No. The 3549 is the drop plate only, an installation accessory. The 3301 or 3501 Series closer body, arm and any brackets are ordered separately.
