1) Do I need to replace the whole mortise lock if the faceplate is damaged or the finish is worn?
No. On an 8800 Series mortise lock, the armor front and strike are serviceable parts, so a scarred faceplate, a strike chewed up by years of latch strikes, or a finish that no longer matches new trim can be corrected with the 8807 pack alone. The lock body stays in the door.
2) What finishes does the Accentra 8807 armor front and strike pack come in?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 630 satin stainless steel. Match the number to the lever trim already on the opening rather than to the finish name, since 626 and 630 read similarly on a door but are different codes and different materials. For a building being standardized, 630 satin stainless is the usual commercial pick and 626 the usual match to older brass-era chrome trim.
3) I am changing the trim finish on my Accentra mortise locks. Do I have to change the armor front too?
If you want the opening to match, yes. The armor front is the only piece of lock hardware visible on the edge of the door, and it sits right beside the frame where it is seen every time the door swings. Order the 8807 in the same finish code as the new lever trim, and the strike in the pack changes with it so the frame side matches as well.
4) Is the 8807 armor front pack for commercial or residential doors?
Commercial. It is an 8800 Series mortise lock part, and mortise locks of that type are what goes on office, school, healthcare, retail, and multi-tenant openings. On a residential bored-hole door there is no mortise pocket for it to cover.
5) How many 8807 packs do I order for a building standardization job?
One pack per door leaf. Each pack covers a single mortise lock, front and strike together, so a 40 door retrofit takes 40 packs in one finish code. Pairs of doors with a mortise lock in each leaf count as two.
