ACSI 1355-6 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the ACSI 1355-6 keypad be mounted outside on an exterior door?
Yes. The 1355-6 is a weather resistant, indoor/outdoor keypad with a flush mount design, so it can go on an exterior opening as well as an interior one. The keys are hardened and backlit, which matters on an entry that gets used after dark.
2) What voltage does the ACSI 1355-6 keypad run on?
It accepts 10-30 VDC or 12-24 VAC and auto adjusts, so it will run off most existing access control power supplies or a transformer already feeding an electric strike or maglock without adding a separate supply.
3) How much current can the ACSI 1355-6 relay switch, and will it drive a maglock or electric strike directly?
The 1355-6 uses a 2A main relay, not the 5A relay found on other models in the 1355 family. That is enough for typical electric strikes and maglocks drawing under 2 amps, but check the draw of your locking device first. The keypad is built to control any electric locking device, and for higher loads you would switch through an interposing relay.
4) How many user codes does the ACSI 1355-6 hold, and how long can a code be?
120 users. Codes run 1 to 6 digits and repeated digits are allowed, so you can issue a short code for common access and longer unique codes for individual staff. Codes are held in non-volatile memory, so a power loss does not wipe your programming.
5) How long can I set the door to stay unlocked on the ACSI 1355-6?
The 1355-6 has a 1 to 255 second adjustable relock delay, a wider range than the 1 to 90 seconds on the rest of the 1355 Series. That longer window is useful on a loading dock or a delivery door where someone needs to move carts through before the lock drops. It also supports main relay ON/OFF latching, so you can toggle the door to stay unlocked during business hours.
6) Does the ACSI 1355-6 have a panic output?
No. Panic output is on the other 1355 Series models but not on the 1355-6 or the 1355-5. If a duress or panic output is part of your spec, pick a different model in the series. The 1355-6 does carry an alarm panel interface capability for remote annunciation, plus LED status indicators and an audible sounder at the keypad.
7) What are the alternatives to the ACSI 1355-6 if I need more than 120 users or a card reader?
For higher user counts, SDC's 918 Series indoor keypad and 926 Series outdoor keypad are both rated for 500 users. If you want cards or fobs alongside a PIN, the SDC EntryCheck 920 Series is an indoor/outdoor keypad with an integrated proximity reader, and the 923 Series is the narrow version of that for a mullion or narrow stile. The Securitron DK-12 is another standalone digital keypad option. The ACSI 1355-6 is keypad only, 120 users.
8) The ACSI 1355-6 is too wide for my aluminum storefront mullion - what narrow keypad fits instead?
The ACSI 1355-6 is a flush mount keypad sized for a standard wall or frame opening. Where the mounting surface is a narrow storefront stile or mullion, the SDC EntryCheck 923 Series is built as a narrow digital keypad with proximity reader for indoor/outdoor access control, which is the usual answer on glass front entries. Confirm the stile width before ordering either one.
9) What is a comparable indoor/outdoor keypad to the ACSI 1355-6 if I need a higher user capacity?
The ACSI 1355-6 is a weather resistant backlit keypad with 120 user capability and codes of 1 to 6 digits. If the site needs more credentials than that, the SDC 926 Series is an outdoor digital keypad with weather protection and a 500 user capacity, and the SDC 918 Series is an indoor digital access control keypad also rated for 500 users. Choose the 926 if the keypad is exposed to weather and the 918 only if it sits in a protected interior location.
10) Do I need a separate controller or software to program this ACSI keypad?
No. The 1355-6 is programmable at the keypad itself, so codes and timing are entered on the keys with no PC, software, or head-end panel. That makes it a straightforward standalone door for a property manager or small facility that does not want a networked access system.
11) Can I wire a push-to-exit button or motion sensor to the ACSI 1355-6?
Yes. The keypad has a request-to-exit switch input, so an REX button, a motion sensor, or the REX contact in an exit device can be tied in to release the lock from the secure side without a code.
12) What is the simplest standalone keypad alternative to the ACSI 1355-6?
The ACSI 1355-6 is keypad programmable with a request-to-exit switch input, main relay ON/OFF latching toggle mode, adjustable relock delay of 1 to 255 seconds and non-volatile memory. If you do not need that feature depth, the Securitron DK-12 is a stand alone digital keypad that handles basic code entry control of an electric lock.
13) Is the ACSI 1355 keypad suitable for an apartment building or is it a commercial-only product?
Both work. The 1355 Series is catalogued as commercial grade and ACSI states the keypads are used in commercial, industrial and residential applications, so a common entry door, a pool gate, or a maintenance room in a multi-family property are all reasonable uses.
