1) Will the ACSI 1550K-VD latch retraction kit work on a Von Duprin 99 exit device?
Yes. The 1550K-VD kit is built for Von Duprin 33/35 and 98/99 Series exit devices, and those are the only devices it is made to fit. If the door has a Von Duprin 22 Series on it instead, that takes the 1550K-MDV22 kit, and Von Duprin 33A/35A and 98/99 devices are also covered by the 1550K-MDV motor kit. Check the device number stamped on the exit device itself before ordering, since the 33/35 and 98/99 families use different chassis than the 22.
2) What does an electric latch retraction kit actually do on an exit device?
Electric latch retraction pulls the exit device latch back and holds it retracted electrically, so the door can be pushed or pulled open from the outside without a key or trim release, and it re-latches when power drops. That is what the 1550K-VD adds to a Von Duprin 33/35 or 98/99 device. It is a modification kit, a component that goes into an existing device, not a complete exit device on its own. Buy it when you have a working Von Duprin device on the door and you need access control, card reader release, or remote unlock through it.
