3) Which side does the M1510M-1-8808 lock, the secure side or the corridor side?
Standard control on this lock (the -1- in the model) locks the outside, secure side trim. Inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress, and the outside lever is what the motor controls. That is the arrangement you want on a stair door or a controlled area entrance: nobody is ever locked in, and access from the public side is what the access control system grants.
4) Will an electrified mortise lock fit a door that already has a mortise lock pocket?

The difference from the mechanical version is the wiring: the lock case has to be fed power, which means an electric hinge or a power transfer at the frame and a raceway to the pocket. If the door was previously mechanical only, that power path is the work, not the pocket.
5) Should I use a motor controlled electric mortise lock or a solenoid one?
ACSI builds the 1500 Series in both motor-controlled and solenoid-controlled versions; the M1510M-1-8808 is the motor-controlled one. The motor version is what gets you the field-selectable fail safe / fail secure choice in a single part number, and it draws low power and is continuous duty rated, so it can sit energized on a stair door all day without cooking. A solenoid version is the other option in the family when the design calls for it. Both allow remote electric locking or unlocking while conforming to life-safety codes.
