Aiphone RY-AC/A - External Signaling Relay

The RY-AC/A signaling relay is made for call extension on Aiphone LEF, TD-H, TD-Z and IE-8MD systems. If your intercom is one of those, the relay ties in to fire an external device when a door station call comes in. Other Aiphone platforms are not covered by that list.

You can, within the contact rating: 240V AC at 0.3A, or 24V DC at 1A. The signaling device has to be AC operated or a DC mechanical type. A high draw horn or a solid state DC sounder that exceeds those numbers needs its own power relay driven by the RY-AC/A, not wired directly across the contacts.

No separate supply. The relay runs on 12V DC fed from the master station, so there is no transformer or plug pack to add. The device you are switching, the bell or buzzer, still needs whatever power it requires on its own circuit through the relay contacts.

No. The RY-AC/A activates the external device momentarily, only for as long as the call button on the door station is held, so it will not hold or extend the ring. For a timed output you would use a timing device such as the Securitron TM-2 Time Master II multi-function timer, which is sold as a timer rather than a call-extension relay. The RY-AC/A is the choice when momentary signaling that follows the button is what the job calls for.

They are not interchangeable in that role. The RY-AC/A is built as a call-extension relay for Aiphone LEF, TD-H, TD-Z and IE-8MD systems, drawing 12V DC from the master station and closing momentarily while the door station call button is pressed, with contacts rated 240V AC 0.3A or 24V DC 1A. The Securitron RB-4 is a general-purpose relay board sold as part of the RB-4 series, not an intercom-specific accessory keyed to an Aiphone master station. If the trigger is an Aiphone call button on one of those systems, the RY-AC/A is the part that lands on it directly.

That is exactly the job. The RY-AC/A activates an external doorbell, buzzer or other signaling device when a call comes in, so you can put an audible signal in a back office, shop floor or apartment where the master station cannot be heard. It extends the call signal, it does not extend the voice conversation, for that you need a sub or additional master station.

Different jobs. The RY-AC/A is a single-purpose signaling relay that fires an external doorbell, buzzer or chime when an Aiphone intercom call comes in, powered at 12V DC from the master station. The Securitron RLP is a relay logic pack in the RLP series, a general access control logic component rather than an intercom accessory. Pick the RY-AC/A when the trigger source is an Aiphone LEF, TD-H, TD-Z or IE-8MD system and the output is an audible signaling device.

Not as specified. The RY-AC/A contacts are rated 240V AC at 0.3A or 24V DC at 1A, and the bell, buzzer or chime must be AC operated or a DC mechanical type. An electronic DC chime falls outside that. If the load or switching arrangement does not fit those contacts, a separate relay board such as the Securitron RB-4 in the RB-4 series can be driven from a suitable dry contact to carry the load instead.

One relay drives one signaling circuit, and the total load on that circuit has to stay inside 240V AC / 0.3A or 24V DC / 1A. If you want several bells in different areas, either wire them on one circuit within that rating or use an additional relay per circuit.
