Blackburn GP-0WC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire sizes does the Blackburn GP-0WC parallel tap connector take on the main and the tap?
The GP-0WC takes a main run conductor from 1/0 through 2 AWG, and a tap conductor from 1/0 all the way down to 14 AWG. That wide tap range is what makes it useful for pulling a small branch or control conductor off a service-size run without stepping up to a second connector.
2) Can I use the GP-0WC tap connector on copper wire, or is it aluminum only?
It is a dual-rated connector, so it is listed for both aluminum and copper conductors, including an aluminum main with a copper tap. The body is aluminum with a tin-plated surface, which is the plating that lets it sit against copper without the galvanic problems bare aluminum would create.
3) My main run is 3/0 aluminum. Will the GP-0WC work?
No. The GP-0WC main side is sized for 1/0 through 2 AWG only, so a 3/0 conductor will not seat in it. You need a larger-frame parallel tap rated for 3/0 on the main run.
4) Does the Blackburn GP-0WC come with an insulating cover, or do I buy that separately?
The cover is part of the GP-0WC. The WC in the part number is the covered version, so you get the tap connector and its insulating cover together as one item.
5) Is a parallel tap connector the right choice, or should I be using a split bolt?
A parallel tap like the GP-0WC lays the two conductors side by side and clamps them, which keeps the tap out of the run without cutting it and gives you a flatter profile than a split bolt in a crowded pull box or gutter. It also arrives with an insulating cover, so you are not taping up the joint by hand the way you would with a split bolt. Split bolts still make sense for tight bundling of same-size conductors; for a large main with a much smaller tap, the parallel tap handles the size mismatch better, here 1/0-2 AWG main against a tap as small as 14 AWG.
6) How is the Blackburn GP-0WC sold, individually or in a bag?
Each. One GP-0WC connector with its cover is a single selling unit, so order one per tap point rather than by the box.
7) Where is the Blackburn GP-0WC made, and what does it look like on the shelf?
Manufactured in Mexico. It is a metallic-finish aluminum tap body with tin plating, supplied with its cover, so it reads as a plain silver-grey connector rather than a colour-coded one.
