Blackburn IKL57 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What conductor sizes does the Blackburn IKL57 service entrance splice take on each end?
The IKL57 is a reducing splice: the A side takes 4/0 and the B side takes 2/0, so it joins two different conductor sizes in one connector. If both of your conductors are the same size, this is the wrong part number, you want a straight splice sized to that conductor.
2) Is the Blackburn IKL57 splice rated for aluminum conductors or copper only?
The body is aluminum and the IKL57 is built as an aluminum service entrance splice, so it is intended for aluminum conductor service entrance work. It joins 2 conductors, one per end.
3) Does the IKL57 splice crimp on, or is it a set screw connector?
Compression only. The IKL57 is crimped with a hydraulic compression tool and the correct die for the barrel, there are no set screws. Budget tool time accordingly on a service upgrade, and do not substitute a mechanical lug where a compression splice is specified.

6) Is the IKL57 splice insulated, or do I have to tape and sleeve it after crimping?
It comes insulated, so you are not building up a tape and mastic buildout over a bare barrel. Confirm the insulation is undamaged after crimping and that the conductor insulation seats into the ends.
7) Is the IKL57 sold individually or in a bag of multiples?
Sold each. For a three phase service reduction you would order one per phase conductor, plus one for the neutral if it is also being reduced.
