Progress Lighting P5391-31PC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Progress Lighting P5391-31PC 84-inch post come with a light fixture or lamp?
No. The P5391-31PC is the post only, an outdoor accessory measuring 3 x 3 x 84 inches. No lamp is included, and no mounting for an outlet box is included either. You order the post-top lantern or fixture separately and supply any mounting hardware that fixture needs.
2) Will a standard 3-inch post-top fixture fit the Progress P5391-31PC aluminum post?
Not necessarily. The post measures 3 inches across with an each width of 3.625 inches, but it is not flagged as accepting a standard post-top fitter. Match the fixture to the post rather than assuming a generic 3-inch fitter will slip on.
3) How is this 84-inch Progress Lighting outdoor post installed, and does it bolt to a concrete base?
It is an in-ground post, not a base-plate or bolt-down design. You set it directly in the ground, so plan on a dug hole and concrete backfill with conduit run up through the post. There is a ladder rest built in for servicing the fixture later.
4) Does the photocell on this Progress post switch the light automatically, and what voltage does it need?
Yes. The photocell is integrated into the post and switches the fixture on at dusk and off at dawn with no timer or separate control needed. It runs on 120 VAC, hardwired. You still need a 120V branch circuit brought to the post location.
5) Is the P5391-31PC post prewired, and how much wire is in it?
It is not prewired as a finished harness. There is 6 inches of wire at the photocell connection point, so the electrician pulls conductors up the post and makes the splice in the field.
6) How tall will the fixture sit on a 7-foot aluminum lamp post?
The post is 84 inches, seven feet, overall. Part of that length goes below grade on an in-ground set, so the actual mounting height at the top is less than seven feet above finished grade depending on your burial depth. Size the hole to the lighting height you want.
7) Does this Progress Lighting post carry a Proposition 65 warning, and is it Dark Sky compliant?
A Proposition 65 warning is required on the P5391-31PC, which matters if you are shipping into California. It is not a Dark Sky rated product, and it carries no Energy Star or Title 24 designation, since it is a support post rather than a light source.
8) Will an aluminum post hold up in a coastal or wet climate, and what is the finish?
The post is aluminum with a matte black powdercoat, so it will not rust the way a steel post does and the coating adds corrosion and fade resistance. It is built for outdoor use.
9) Can I order a single post, or is there a minimum quantity?
Posts sell individually. The order multiple is 1 each, with one unit per carton, so a property manager replacing one damaged post in a parking lot can buy exactly one.
10) Where is this Progress Lighting outdoor post manufactured, and is it Buy American compliant?
Country of origin is Mexico. Buy American and ARRA compliance are not established for this item, so it should not be specified where a domestic-content requirement applies without confirming with Progress Lighting directly.
