1) Does the American Lock A3107WOKA padlock come with a cylinder or core?
No core is included. The A3107WOKA ships as a lock body only, prepped to accept a small format interchangeable core that you supply or order separately from your keying vendor. That is the point of the WO (without cylinder) designation: locksmiths and facilities running their own SFIC system drop in their own core so the padlock keys to the same system as the doors.
2) What does "keyed alike" mean on the A3107WOKA, and will my existing cores work in it?
Keyed alike means every padlock on the order operates from the same key, so one key opens a whole group of locks. Since the body takes a small format interchangeable core and none is supplied, the keying is determined by the core you install, not by the padlock. Any SFIC core in the keyway your system already uses will run the lock, and 16 interchangeable core keyways are available to match an existing door security system.
3) Will the 3 inch shackle on this American Lock aluminum padlock clear a thick hasp or chain link gate?
The shackle stands 3 inches tall with a 1/4 inch diameter and a 3/4 inch clearance between the legs. That 3/4 inch opening width is what decides whether it goes through your hasp or gate eye, and the 3 inch height gives plenty of vertical reach for chain, thick hasps, or a gate latch. The body itself is 1-1/2 inches wide.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering the A3107WOKA?
Three things beyond color. Key quantity: choose 0, 1, 3 or 4 keys per lock, or the standard 2 keys per lock. Chain: none, or a #40 sash chain 9 inches long, zinc plated, for tethering the lock to a gate or panel so it does not walk off. And the key code, since these are keyed alike and need to match the group you are building. Remember the core itself is not supplied.
5) I need these master keyed, not just keyed alike. Is there a version for that?
The A3107WOKA is keyed alike only. For a group of locks that all share a key and also open under a facility master, American Lock lists the A3107WOKAMK, keyed alike and master keyed. If each lock should have its own key under a master, the A3107WOMK is keyed different master keyed, and A3107WOUN is uncombinated for shops that pin their own.
6) I need a padlock that ships with a cylinder already in it, not one I have to core myself. What should I order instead of the A3107WOKA?
The A3107WOKA is supplied without a cylinder, so a small format interchangeable core has to be added before it will operate. If you want a lock that arrives keyed and ready, the Medeco 5260 is a 52 Series brass body padlock with a 7/16 inch shackle diameter and M3 key technology in satin chrome, and the Medeco 54515G XT electronic indoor/outdoor padlock is supplied with cylinder. Both are complete units rather than core-ready shells.
7) For lockout tagout on an electrical panel, is the American Lock A3107WOKA or an ABUS safety padlock the better fit?
The A3107WOKA has a 1-1/2 inch wide solid aluminum body with a 1/4 inch diameter shackle, which is non-conductive only insofar as the body material allows.
