Metallics RCA12214 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many anchors come in a jar of Metallics RCA12214?
Fifty pieces per jar. Metallics packs the RCA12214 in a jar of 50, which is the standard buy unit for this item, so a 50-hanger run of 1/2 inch rod is one container.
2) What is a rod coupling sleeve anchor used for on an electrical or mechanical install?
It is a female anchor that sets into concrete and gives you a threaded socket to screw hanger rod into, rather than a bolt head on the outside. Electricians and pipe fitters use them overhead in slabs to hang trapeze supports, conduit racks, strut, and cable tray from 1/2 inch all-thread. Because the anchor accepts the rod rather than carrying a fixed bolt, you can cut the rod to any drop length on site.
3) Do I need a different anchor if I am hanging from a wood or steel structure instead of concrete?
Yes. The RCA12214 is a sleeve anchor, which works by expanding inside a drilled hole in masonry or concrete. On wood framing use a lag screw rod hanger, and on steel bar joist or beam use a beam clamp or threaded rod C-clamp. A sleeve anchor has nothing to expand against in either of those.
