Metallics JTS32340SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole do I drill for the Metallics JTS32340SS 3/8 inch wedge anchor?
Drill 3/8 inch. A wedge anchor uses a hole the same nominal diameter as the anchor body, so the 3/8 x 2-3/4 anchor goes into a 3/8 inch carbide-bit hole drilled deeper than the embedment you need, so dust can settle below the anchor.
2) Is the Metallics JTS32340SS anchor stainless steel or zinc plated?
Stainless steel. That is what the SS in JTS32340SS designates, and it is the version to use for exterior pads, wet mechanical rooms, pool decks, and coastal work where a zinc plated carbon steel anchor would rust at the collar.
3) Can a 3/8 x 2-3/4 wedge anchor be used in hollow block or brick?
No. Wedge anchors are for solid, poured concrete only. The expansion clip needs solid material around the full embedment to grip, and it will spin or blow out the face of hollow CMU or brick. For block, use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for masonry instead.
4) How many anchors come in a jar of Metallics JTS32340SS?
100 pieces per jar. Metallics packs this 3/8 x 2-3/4 stainless wedge anchor in jar quantities, so a single buy covers a full run of strut, conduit rack, or equipment base fastening without splitting boxes.
5) Does the JTS32340SS wedge anchor come with a nut and washer?
Yes, wedge anchors ship as a one-piece assembly with the expansion clip, nut, and washer already on the threaded stud. You drill, drive the anchor through the fixture hole, and torque the nut. No separate hardware to order.
6) What is this stainless wedge anchor typically used for on an electrical job?
Anchoring to concrete: strut channel and trapeze hangers, conduit standoffs, panel and transformer mounting feet, generator and disconnect pads, light pole bases. Metallics catalogs it with its electrical fastener line, and the 3/8 inch diameter is the common size for strut and equipment bases.
7) Can I reuse or back out a wedge anchor once it is set?
No. Once the nut is torqued the clip expands against the hole wall and the anchor is permanent. If you need to remove the fixture, back the nut off and leave the stud, or cut or drive the stud below the surface and patch. Plan hole locations before you drill.
