Wedge anchors are drilled at the same diameter as the anchor body, so the Metallics JTS303SSD at 3/8 inch diameter takes a 3/8 inch carbide bit in concrete. Drill the hole deeper than the embedment you need so dust and cuttings have somewhere to go, blow it clean, then drive the anchor until the nut and washer seat and tighten to expand the clip. At 3 inches overall length, part of that length is consumed by the fixture thickness plus the nut and washer, so the remainder is your embedment.

Wedge anchors like the Metallics JTS303SSD are designed for solid, poured concrete. The expansion clip needs a dense, uniform hole wall to grip, and hollow block or brick will crush or spall instead. For hollow CMU, brick, or mortar joints use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for those base materials rather than a wedge anchor.

Zinc plated carbon steel wedge anchors are fine for dry interior concrete and cost less, but they rust and seize in exposed conditions.
