B-LINE AR4A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What coil voltage is the B-Line AR4A control relay wound for?
The AR4A relay takes a 110/120V coil and is rated 50-60 Hz, so it runs off standard single-phase control power in North America and on 50 Hz systems too. If your control circuit is 24V or 240V, this is the wrong coil and you need a different model in the AR/ARD series.
2) How many poles does the AR4A relay have, and can I change contacts from N.O. to N.C.?
Four-pole, and the contacts are convertible, which is the point of the AR/ARD design. You set each of the four poles normally open or normally closed as the circuit needs rather than stocking separate relays for each arrangement.
3) Will the AR4A fit in my existing control panel space?
The AR4A measures 3.56 in high, 2.88 in long and 3.44 in wide. Lay that against the free area in your enclosure, including the space you need above it for wiring and for pulling the cover off to convert a contact.
4) What does the 4 blank cavity count on the AR4A mean when I'm ordering?
Four blank cavities means all four contact positions are open for the arrangement you choose, rather than coming pre-populated in one fixed N.O./N.C. mix. For a machine tool panel where the logic changes between builds, that lets one part cover several circuit arrangements.
5) Is the AR4A an industrial machine tool relay or a general purpose ice cube relay?
This is an industrial control relay built for machine tool control circuits, not a plug-in ice cube style relay on an octal socket. If you are replacing a small socketed relay on a DIN rail, the AR/ARD is a different animal and will not drop into that socket.
6) What's the exact part number to order for a four-pole 120V AR relay?
Order model AR4A. That is the four-pole version of the AR/ARD convertible contact relay with the 110/120V, 50-60 Hz coil.
