B-LINE SB24B05YZ – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will this auxiliary support work with standard 1-5/8 inch strut?
No. The SB24B05YZ is built on a 1 inch by 2 inch channel profile, not the common 1-5/8 inch strut section, so 1-5/8 inch nuts, clamps and fittings will not seat correctly in it. Match your fittings to the 1 x 2 profile.
2) Is yellow zinc channel OK for outdoor or damp locations?
Yellow zinc chromate over steel is a corrosion-resistant plating meant for dry interior and lightly protected work. For sustained outdoor exposure, washdown areas or coastal sites, specify hot dip galvanized or stainless channel instead. Indoor mechanical rooms, ceiling spaces and electrical rooms are where this finish belongs.
3) Does this B-Line support channel carry a UL listing or other certification?
The SB24B05YZ auxiliary support channel is catalogued with certifications marked Not Applicable, so don't write it into a spec that calls for a listed support component. If your drawing requires a listed or labeled support, ask for a product that carries that mark specifically.
4) What is an auxiliary support channel used for on an electrical install?
It's a short section of steel channel used to bridge or extend a support run where the primary strut or hanger doesn't land on structure, typically picking up conduit racks, cable tray or boxes. The SB24B05YZ gives you a 5 inch length in a 1 x 2 profile for that kind of intermediate pickup, in yellow zinc chromate steel.
5) Do hardware or fasteners come with the B-Line SB24B05YZ support channel?
What you order is the support channel itself in yellow zinc chromate steel. Channel nuts, bolts, clamps and anchors are separate, so add those to the order sized for the 1 x 2 channel profile and for whatever structure you're anchoring to.
6) Is there more than one size or finish of this Eaton B-Line auxiliary support channel?
One configuration is offered: model SB24B05YZ, steel with a yellow zinc chromate finish, 1 x 2 channel at 5 inches. If you need a different length or a galvanized finish, that's a different part number.
7) How heavy is the B-Line SB24B05YZ and what does that mean for handling?
Listed at 11.7 lb. That's a one-hand piece for an installer on a ladder, but it also tells you this is solid steel section rather than a light stamped bracket, so plan your anchors accordingly.
