B-LINE BM1M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole in a metal stud does the B-Line BM1M plastic grommet fit?
The BM1M snaps into 1-11/32 inch diameter holes in metal studs. That is the knockout size it is built around, so if your studs are punched at a different diameter the grommet will not seat properly.
2) Is the Eaton B-Line BM1M grommet listed for use in commercial electrical work?
It is cULus Listed, which is what most inspectors and institutional spec writers want to see on a cable protection fitting in a metal stud wall.
3) What is a plastic grommet like the B-Line BM1M actually used for when running cable through metal studs?
It lines the punched hole in a steel stud so low voltage or branch circuit cable is not pulled across the raw cut edge of the metal. The BM1M is a plastic grommet that snaps into the stud knockout and gives the cable a smooth bearing surface as it passes through the framing.
4) Do I need any screws or fasteners to install the B-Line BM1M grommet?
No hardware needed. It is a snap-in fitting, so it seats into the 1-11/32 inch stud hole by hand with no screws, clips or tools.
5) Is the B-Line BM1M a cable support or just hole protection?
It belongs to the Eaton B-Line cable support fastener family and is the plastic grommet version, meaning it protects and guides cable at a stud penetration rather than clamping or suspending a run. If you need the cable actually held in place along its length, you want a clip or strap fastener, not this grommet.
6) What color is the B-Line BM1M grommet, and does that matter on the job?
Yellow. On a rough-in walkthrough that makes it easy to confirm from across the room that every stud penetration got a grommet before the drywall goes up.
7) How big is the B-Line BM1M grommet overall, and how much does one weigh?
Each grommet measures 1 inch high, 1 inch wide and 1 inch deep, and weighs .006 lb. At that weight, a full box for a large stud-wall rough-in adds almost nothing to the material haul.
8) What part number do I order for the B-Line yellow snap-in stud grommet?
Order Eaton B-Line model BM1M. That is the single model in this grommet offering, so there is no size or finish choice to specify.
