That is exactly what the BP-12-A28 acoustical tee fastener does. It fastens to the T-bar of the grid and carries conduit or an electrical box above the ceiling, so you are not drilling the deck or hanging separate rod for a short run. Height adjusts from 4.25 to 7.25 inches to clear the tile plane and land the conduit where you want it.
2) Will this work for 1/2 inch EMT or is it only for 3/4 inch?
The BP-12-A28 is specified for 3/4 inch EMT, and for 1/2 inch in IMC or rigid. The difference matters because 1/2 inch IMC and rigid have a larger outside diameter than 1/2 inch EMT, so this size opening takes 3/4 EMT and 1/2 IMC/rigid. For a 1/2 inch EMT run, use the corresponding smaller B-Line acoustical tee fastener instead.
