B-LINE FT6X18X10HD – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the B-Line FT6X18X10HD wire basket tray suitable for outdoor or corrosive environments?
Yes. The FT6X18X10HD Flex Tray is hot-dipped galvanized steel and B-Line recommends it for exterior and corrosive applications. Hot-dip galvanizing after fabrication coats cut ends and welds, which is why it holds up outdoors and in wash-down or chemically aggressive areas where a pre-galvanized or painted tray would rust at the cuts.
2) What size cable bundle will a 6 inch deep by 18 inch wide Flex Tray hold?
The FT6X18X10HD is an 18 inch wide, 6 inch deep basket tray with 107.3 square inches of usable area inside the tray. That figure is the number to use when you are sizing fill for a data or power cable run, rather than the nominal 6 x 18 outside dimensions. Overall height of the section is 6.38 inches.
3) Is this B-Line Flex Tray listed or certified for use on a commercial job?
The FT6X18X10HD carries CSA certification. If your drawing or inspector calls for a specific listing beyond that, confirm against the spec on the plan set before you commit the run.
4) Do splice plates, hold-down clamps or supports come with the FT6X18X10HD tray section?
What ships is the tray section itself, 18 inches wide by 6 inches deep in hot-dip galvanized steel. Splice hardware, trapeze or wall-bracket supports, hold-downs and any grounding conductor are separate line items and need to be ordered alongside the tray. Match the accessory finish to the hot-dip galvanized tray so you are not putting plain steel splices on an exterior run.
5) Should I use basket tray like this or solid-bottom cable tray for my run?
A 6 inch deep basket tray such as the FT6X18X10HD is the choice for communications and low-voltage cable where you want air flow around the bundle, easy mid-span drops, and the ability to field-cut and bend the mesh around obstructions. Solid-bottom or ventilated ladder tray is the better pick where cables need physical protection from falling debris, or where the spec calls for a specific support spacing on heavy power feeders. For exterior runs, the hot-dip galvanized finish here is what makes basket tray viable outdoors.
6) What is the exact part number to order this 18 inch B-Line basket tray?
Order Eaton B-Line part number FT6X18X10HD. Read the code as Flex Tray, 6 inch depth, 18 inch width, 10 foot length, HD for hot-dip galvanized. If you need a different width or a plain electro-galvanized finish, the number changes in those positions.
