B-LINE MG122514FF 24 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size opening does the B-Line Grate-Lock MG122514FF 24 grating cover?
The Grate-Lock plank runs 288 inches long by 12 inches wide, with a 2.5 inch channel depth. That is a 24 foot single length, so for a walkway or platform run you lay planks side by side at 12 inches each to reach the width you need, or field cut the length to your support spacing.
2) What does female to female interlock mean on Grate-Lock planks, and will it join to a male edge plank?
Female/Female means both long edges of the plank are the female half of the interlock. Two female edges will not engage each other, so a run built only from female/female planks needs male/female planks between them to lock the field together. Plan the layout so every joint pairs a male edge to a female edge.
3) Is the Grate-Lock traction grip surface non-slip enough for a wet catwalk?
The traction grip surface is the punched, raised-tooth style Grate-Lock walking surface, specified for safe, sturdy footing where non-slip is required. That is the reason to pick traction grip over a plain plank on elevated catwalks, transformer platforms, and mechanical mezzanines where oil or water gets on the deck.
4) What gauge and material is the B-Line Grate-Lock MG122514FF 24, and is the finish good for outdoor use?
It is 14 gauge carbon steel with a mill-galvanized finish. Mill-galvanized gives basic corrosion protection for covered or interior industrial use; for sustained outdoor weather exposure or washdown areas, a hot-dip galvanized or stainless plank is the better call because cut ends and punched openings on mill-galv stock leave bare steel.
5) Is the B-Line Grate-Lock plank the same 2.5 inch depth as the channel size called out on my drawing?
Yes, channel size and product height both read 2.5 inches, so the plank sits 2.5 inches tall on its supports. Use that number when you set your beam elevations and toe-plate heights so the finished walking surface lands where the drawing shows it.
