B-LINE SB5946012TG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Eaton B-Line SB5946012TG network bay extender actually for?
The SB5946012TG is a network bay extender for Eaton B-Line series open frame racks. It bolts onto an open rack to extend the bay, adding mounting width for cable management and network gear rather than acting as a standalone rack. It is fabricated from 11 gauge steel and finished in telco gray powder coat.
2) What hardware do I need to attach the B-Line network bay extender to my rack?
Rack attachment uses 1/2 inch-13 hardware. If the open frame rack you are bolting to is drilled and tapped for 1/2"-13, the extender mates to it directly. Worth checking the existing rack's tap before ordering, since older frames are not all 1/2"-13.
3) Is the SB5946012TG a complete rack or does it need an existing frame?
It is an extender, not a rack. You need an Eaton B-Line series open frame rack already standing and drilled for 1/2"-13 hardware; the extender adds bay width to that frame. Buying it alone will not give you a floor-standing rack.
4) What are the dimensions and weight of the SB5946012TG bay extender?
It measures 25.5 in wide, 12 in high, and 5 in deep, and weighs 28.6 lb. The 5 in depth is what determines how far it stands off the rack face, so allow for that plus your cable bundles when laying out aisle clearance.
5) Will the telco gray finish match the open racks already in my telecom room?
The extender is powder coated in Eaton B-Line telco gray, the same finish used across the B-Line series open frame racks, so it matches existing B-Line frames in that finish. Against a black or clear-anodized rack from another maker it will read as a different color.
6) Is the B-Line bay extender steel heavy enough for loaded cable management?
It is formed from 11 gauge steel, the same gauge Eaton uses on the B-Line open frame racks themselves, and the part weighs 28.6 lb on its own. Steel construction with a powder coat finish, not aluminum or plastic.
