1) Will 19 inch rack-mount network gear fit the B-Line SB5774096YZ open frame rack?
Yes. The SB5774096YZ is a 19 inch wide open frame rack with 58 mounting spaces on its rails, so standard 19 inch EIA rack-mount switches, patch panels and routers mount directly. Rail holes are tapped 12-24, so you fasten equipment with 12-24 screws rather than cage nuts.
2) Is this rack acceptable for a high seismic area data closet?
The SB5774096YZ is a Seismic Zone 4 rated network bay closed duct rack, which is the highest of the legacy seismic zones, and it is UL Listed. It still has to be anchored to the slab per the project's structural detail to carry that rating in the field.
3) Is a yellow zinc finish alright for a telecom room, or do I need painted black?
The finish here is yellow zinc, a plated corrosion-resistant finish on steel rather than a cosmetic paint. It is fine for an electrical or telecom room and it bonds well for grounding continuity. If the spec calls for a black painted rack for appearance in an exposed or customer-facing space, this is not that finish.
4) Do I need cage nuts or square hole hardware for this rack?
No. The rails are drilled and tapped with 12-24 panel mounting holes, so you screw equipment straight into the rail with 12-24 machine screws. Square hole cage nut hardware, and the M6 screws that go with it, will not work on it.
5) Is this an open frame rack or an enclosed cabinet?
It is an open frame rack, not a four-sided enclosure. There are no side panels, doors or top fan panel, which keeps access to both sides of every patch panel and keeps cost and weight down, but it gives no physical security for the gear. If equipment has to be locked away, you need an enclosed network cabinet instead.
6) What does the top channel style on this Eaton B-Line rack do for cable management?
The top channel gives you a structural cross member at the head of the rack to land overhead cable runway, ladder rack or waterfall brackets, rather than tying cable off to the rail uprights. On a closed duct network bay rack that is how horizontal cable enters from above and turns down the vertical duct.
