B-LINE SB74023FB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much rack space does the B-Line SB74023FB keyboard shelf take up?
One mounting space (1U). The shelf is 1.25 inches high, so it consumes a single rack unit on the front rails and leaves the rest of your rack space free for gear.
2) Will this keyboard shelf mount in a standard 19 inch open frame rack?
It is built for Eaton B-Line series open frame racks and mounts with #12-24 hardware, the common thread on B-Line open racks. Overall width is 22.31 inches, which covers the rail-to-rail span plus the mounting flanges of a 19 inch EIA rack, and depth is 8.5 inches.
3) What size screws do I need for the SB74023FB shelf, and does it accept 10-32 rails?
The shelf is drilled for #12-24 mounting hardware. If your rack rails are tapped 10-32, the screws will not match and you would need rails or a rack tapped #12-24. B-Line open racks are commonly #12-24, so check your rail tapping before ordering.
4) Is this a sliding or fixed keyboard shelf?
Fixed. The SB74023FB is a fixed keyboard shelf, not a slide-out tray, so the keyboard sits at a set depth of 8.5 inches from the rails with no drawer action. If you need the keyboard to tuck away between uses, a sliding tray is the type to look for instead.
5) Is the B-Line keyboard shelf strong enough to hold a laptop as well as a keyboard?
It is an aluminum shelf weighing 2.2 pounds, sized as a keyboard platform at 8.5 inches deep. That depth suits a keyboard or a keyboard and small mouse pad; a laptop footprint will overhang the front edge. For a laptop or test gear, use a deeper rack shelf.
6) What is the exact part number to order this B-Line keyboard shelf?
Order Eaton B-Line part SB74023FB. That is the flat black powder coat, aluminum, fixed keyboard shelf taking one mounting space with #12-24 hardware.
7) Will the finish on this shelf match the black racks already in my data room?
The shelf is finished in flat black powder coat, the same finish B-Line uses across its black open rack line, so it reads as a match rather than a gloss or textured contrast. If your existing racks are grey or clear anodized, this one will stand out.
8) Why choose an aluminum keyboard shelf over steel for a rack build?
Aluminum keeps the weight down, 2.2 pounds for this one, which matters on a floor-mounted open frame rack where you are stacking accessories and want to keep load off the rails. Steel shelves carry more weight but add mass; for a keyboard platform aluminum is enough.
