B-LINE SB596V19153AAL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Eaton B-Line SB596V19153AAL shelf fit a standard 19-inch equipment rack?
Yes. The SB596V19153AAL is a rack mounted shelf measuring 19.31 inches wide, which is the standard 19 inch EIA rack mounting width including the mounting flanges. It bolts to the rack rails using the #12-24 hardware that ships with it.
2) Is this a solid shelf or a vented one?
The SB596V19153AAL is a solid aluminum shelf, not vented. If you are stacking heat-producing equipment that relies on bottom intake, a solid deck will block airflow from below, so a vented shelf is the better call there. For non-vented or side-breathing gear, batteries, tools, or media, the solid deck gives you a flat continuous surface.
3) Do I need to buy mounting screws separately for this B-Line shelf?
No. Shelves and #12-24 mounting hardware are included, so as long as your rack rails are tapped or punched for #12-24, you have what you need to hang it. Racks threaded for 10-32 or fitted with cage nuts will need matching fasteners instead.
4) How deep is the B-Line SB596V19153AAL rack shelf, and how much rack space does it take up?
The shelf is 20 inches deep and 6 inches high. At 6 inches of vertical height it occupies roughly 3-1/2 rack units of front panel space, so plan your rack elevation accordingly before mounting gear above or below it.
5) What does double sided mean on this B-Line rack shelf?
Double sided means the shelf is made to mount to rails on both the front and rear of an open frame rack rather than cantilevering off the front rails only. That gives you support at four points across the 20 inch depth, which is what you want when you are setting heavy gear on it instead of a light patch panel or a keyboard.
6) Is an aluminum rack shelf strong enough for heavy equipment?
This one is built as a heavy duty shelf in aluminum, and the shelf itself only weighs 5.4 pounds. The light weight is the point with aluminum: you get a rigid deck without adding much dead load to the rack, and it will not rust in a damp telecom or mechanical room the way a painted steel shelf can once the finish is scratched.
7) What finish is the B-Line SB596V19153AAL, and will it match an aluminum open frame rack?
Brushed aluminum. It matches Eaton B-Line series aluminum open frame racks in the same brushed finish, so if you are building out a room with those racks the shelf will not read as a mismatched part. Against black powder coated racks it will stand out.
