B-LINE BK618 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What enclosure size does the B-Line BK618 barrier kit fit?
The BK618 barrier kit is built for an 18 inch by 6 inch enclosure. The barrier itself measures 17.75 in wide by 5.87 in high, which is what lets it drop inside an 18 x 6 box without trimming. If your enclosure is a different size, this kit will not seat correctly, so match the kit to the box dimensions.
2) Is the BK618 barrier kit UL Listed?
Yes, the B-Line BK618 barrier kit is UL Listed. For institutional and MRO specs that call for listed components inside a listed enclosure, that is the rating on record for this kit.
3) What is the BK618 barrier made of, and will the finish match my existing gray enclosures?
Steel, painted ANSI 61 gray. ANSI 61 is the standard gray used across most industrial enclosures and panels, so it reads as a match alongside typical B-Line and other ANSI 61 gray boxes already mounted in a plant or mechanical room.
4) What is a barrier kit for in a JIC or small electrical panel?
A barrier separates circuits or voltage classes inside the enclosure so line and low-voltage wiring are not running loose together in the same cavity. The BK618 is the 16 gauge steel barrier sized for an 18 x 6 JIC/small panel. It is an accessory that goes inside the box, not the enclosure or the back panel itself, so you still need the enclosure and any subpanel separately.
5) How heavy is the BK618 barrier kit for a one-person install?
At 1.9 lb, the barrier is a one-hand part. No lifting help or hoist needed, and it does not add meaningful load to a wall-mounted small panel.
6) Is 16 gauge steel heavy enough for a barrier in an industrial panel?
16 gauge painted steel is the same class of material used for the small-panel enclosures themselves, so the barrier is rigid rather than a light shield, and it holds its shape when wire bundles are pushed against it. The gray paint also means no bare steel edge sitting against conductors.
