B-LINE SB2108ABZ – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the B-Line SB2108ABZ splice kit actually do in a cable runway?
The SB2108ABZ is a runway stringer reducer butt-splice kit. It joins two runway stringers end to end where the stringer size changes, so you can transition between stringer depths in a straight run without cutting in a custom bracket. It is a splice component, not a corner or junction fitting.
2) Can I use the SB2108ABZ to splice two runway sections of the same stringer size?
It is built as a reducer butt-splice, meaning the joint it makes is between stringers that differ in size. For a straight butt joint between two identical stringers, order the standard (non-reducer) B-Line butt-splice kit instead.
3) What is the finish and steel on the SB2108ABZ, and will it hold up in an unconditioned equipment room?
Black zinc over ASTM A36 steel. The zinc coating gives it corrosion resistance for indoor equipment rooms, basements and unconditioned telecom spaces, and the black finish matches black-painted runway so a spliced joint does not stand out mid-run.
4) What are the dimensions and weight of the B-Line SB2108ABZ splice kit?
The kit measures 5 in (length/depth) by 2 in (height) by .62 in (width) and weighs 1.25 lb. Use the 5 in dimension to confirm you have clear stringer length either side of the butt joint for the splice plate to land on.
5) What part number do I order for the black zinc B-Line runway reducer splice?
Order Eaton B-Line part SB2108ABZ. That single model number covers the black zinc version of the runway stringer reducer butt-splice kit; there are no finish or size options to pick on it.
6) Does the SB2108ABZ splice kit come with the hardware, or do I need separate bolts?
It ships as a kit, so the splice hardware is supplied together rather than as loose plates you have to match bolts to. What it does not include is the runway itself or any ground strap or bonding jumper across the joint, so add those separately if your spec calls for electrical continuity at each splice.
