The B-Line SB1706YZ is a tubular stringer, the side rail that forms the length of an overhead cable runway (ladder rack) in communication pathways. Two stringers run parallel and cross members tie them together to create the runway that carries copper and fiber between racks, cabinets and wall entries. It is the structural rail, not a complete runway section on its own.

Stringers are sold as the rails only. A working runway also needs cross members sized to the runway width you want, splice or butt splice kits to join 119 inch sections end to end, support hardware (threaded rod with J-bolt or trapeze kits for ceiling drops, or wall angle brackets), end caps, and a grounding kit if you are bonding the runway. Count two stringers for every section of runway length.

It is 11 gauge 1008 steel tube built to ASTM A513, the standard for welded mechanical tubing. Tubular construction gives a closed section rather than the open channel of a formed stringer, and at 18.7 lb per 119 inch length one person can set a section on the supports.

Yellow zinc is a plated finish for dry indoor environments such as MDF/IDF rooms, data centers and equipment closets. For exterior, damp or corrosive locations you want a hot dip galvanized or stainless runway instead. The SB1706YZ is the yellow zinc version of the tubular stringer.

The stringer is UL Classified. Runway components carrying that classification are evaluated for use as an equipment grounding conductor when bonded per the manufacturer's instructions, so a grounding kit and bonding jumpers at each splice are still part of the job.

Tubular. The rail is a closed 11 gauge steel tube rather than an open formed channel. Tubular stringers are typically chosen where a cleaner finished look and a smooth cable bearing edge matter, while channel stringers give open access to the inside of the rail for hardware. Mixing the two on one run is not practical because splice kits and cross member attachments are specific to the stringer profile.
