B-LINE B52-240 HDG – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the B-Line B52 strut channel the shallow half-height version or full 1-5/8 inch deep strut?
B52 is the shallow profile. The channel measures .81 in high by 1.62 in wide, so it is the half-height version of standard 1-5/8 inch strut. The opening width is the same 1-5/8 inch dimension as full-depth channel, so standard strut nuts and fittings sized for 1-5/8 inch channel engage the in-turned lips. Use it where you need a lighter, lower-profile run and do not need the load capacity of the deeper 1-5/8 by 1-5/8 section.
2) Can B-Line B52 hot-dipped galvanized strut be used outdoors or in a wash-down area?
Yes. The B52-240 HDG carries a hot-dipped galvanized finish, which is the heavier zinc coating used for exterior, rooftop, parking structure and damp interior runs. Pre-galvanized (electro-galvanized) strut is the indoor-only grade. Cut ends are raw steel either way, so field cuts should be cold-galvanized.
3) Will B52 strut nuts and fittings from other brands fit this channel?
The lip opening on the B52 is the common 1-5/8 inch strut width, so spring nuts, channel nuts, clamps and fittings made for 1-5/8 inch channel will seat in it. What does not carry over is depth-dependent hardware: fittings and post bases sized for a full 1-5/8 inch deep section will not suit a .81 in high channel.
4) What gauge steel is the B-Line B52 strut channel?
12 gauge steel, which is the standard structural gauge for strut channel. Combined with the shallow .81 in section, it suits pipe and conduit racks, light trapeze hangers, equipment mounting and wall-mounted runs rather than heavy overhead structural support.
5) I need to order B-Line half-height strut, what part number do I give my distributor?
B52-240 HDG is the full designation: B52 channel profile, 240 inch length, hot-dipped galvanized finish. Eaton's B-Line naming puts the profile first, then length, then finish, so if you need a different length or a pre-galvanized finish you change those suffixes and keep the B52 prefix.
6) Is the B-Line B52 strut solid or slotted?
B52 is the solid-back profile. There are no back slots in the channel, so all anchoring is done through holes you drill or by using strut clamps and post bases. If you want pre-punched mounting holes on a set spacing, you need a slotted variant of the channel rather than the plain B52.
