B-LINE BAB1020HE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the BAB1020HE a bolt-on or plug-in circuit breaker?
The Quicklag BAB1020HE is a bolt-on breaker. It fastens to the panel bus with a screw rather than clipping onto a stab, so the panelboard interior has to be built for bolt-on breakers. A plug-in panel will not take it, and you cannot convert one to the other in the field.
2) What amperage and how many poles is the B-Line Quicklag BAB1020HE?
Single-pole, 20 amp. That makes it the standard branch circuit breaker for 120V lighting and receptacle circuits fed from one phase, not a two-pole device for 240V equipment.
3) What is the interrupting rating on this BAB breaker, and is 6 kAIC enough for my panel?
The BAB1020HE is rated 6 kAIC. Your available fault current at the panel has to be at or below that figure. On a lot of light commercial and multi-family panelboards fed by a small transformer, 6 kAIC is adequate; on service-entrance gear or anything close to a large utility transformer, the engineer will typically call for a higher AIC breaker. Check the fault current on the panel schedule before ordering.
4) What voltage is the BAB1020HE rated for?
240/415V. As a single-pole device it is normally applied at 120V to ground on a 120/240V single phase system, or at 240V to ground on a 240/415V system. It is not a 277V breaker, so do not put it on a 277/480V lighting panel.
5) Will a BAB breaker replace a QO or Homeline breaker in my panel?
No. BAB is a specific bolt-on breaker type and it only fits panelboard interiors built for the BAB frame. Breakers from other manufacturers' lines are not interchangeable with it, even at the same 20 amps and single pole. Match the breaker type stamped on the panel label.
6) Can I use the Quicklag BAB1020HE on an air conditioner or heat pump circuit?
Yes. It is HACR rated, which is what lets a branch breaker serve heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment with motor loads. Confirm the equipment nameplate calls for a 20 amp maximum overcurrent device before applying it.
7) Can the trip unit on this breaker be changed or field adjusted?
No. The BAB1020HE is a non-interchangeable trip breaker, thermal-magnetic, fixed at 20 amps. If the circuit needs a different rating you replace the whole breaker with the correct BAB frame amperage rather than swapping a trip unit.
8) Is the BAB1020HE sold individually or in a multi-pack?
It is catalogued as a Q7 item quantity, so confirm the pack count on the order line if you are buying a single breaker for one circuit versus stocking a panel build.
