Baldwin 4454031 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Baldwin 4454 a cabinet knob or a door knob for a passage door?
It's a cabinet knob. The Baldwin Estate 4454 Severin Fayerman C knob is a 1 inch diameter knob for cabinet doors and drawer fronts, not a latching door knob for a room door. If you need something for a passage or privacy door, this isn't the part.
2) Does the Baldwin 4454 cabinet knob come with the screw, or do I need to order mounting hardware separately?
Mounting hardware is included with the 4454 knob, so you don't need to source screws separately. On thicker drawer fronts or doors with an applied panel you may still need a longer screw than the standard one supplied.
3) What is the Baldwin Estate 4454 knob made of?
Solid brass. That's what gives the 4454 its weight in the hand and what allows the plated finishes to be oxidized, hand relieved and lacquered rather than sprayed on. Brass also holds up to the handling a kitchen or bath cabinet sees daily.
4) What finishes does the Baldwin 4454 Severin Fayerman knob come in?
Seven: 003 Vintage Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, 150 Satin Nickel, 190 Satin Black and 260 Polished Chrome. The two PVD finishes hold their color under cleaning better than a lacquered finish, and 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is intentionally unprotected so it will darken and patina over time.
5) Can I match the Baldwin 4454 knob to other hardware in the same house?
It belongs to Baldwin's Estate Series, and the finish numbers used here (150 Satin Nickel, 260 Polished Chrome, 055 Polished Nickel PVD and so on) are Baldwin's standard finish codes, so ordering by that same code across Baldwin Estate pieces is how you keep a house consistent. Note that 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is the exception: it's meant to age, so it will drift away from a freshly installed piece over time.
6) How do I order the right Baldwin 4454 knob?
Specify model 4454 plus the three-digit finish code, for example 4454.150 for Satin Nickel or 4454.190 for Satin Black. Finish is the only choice to make, since the knob is a single 1 inch diameter.
7) Will a 1 inch cabinet knob look right on large kitchen drawer fronts?
A 1 inch knob is a small, traditional scale. On tall pantry or wide base drawer fronts most designers move to a pull or a larger knob for visual balance and grip. The 4454 suits upper cabinet doors, vanity doors and smaller drawers, and it's an Estate Series residential piece rather than a commercial-duty item.
8) Is the Severin Fayerman C knob suitable for an apartment turn or a hotel casework spec?
The 4454 is catalogued by Baldwin as residential. For multi-family unit turns or hospitality casework where the hardware takes heavy repeat use and needs to be replaceable in volume, a commercial-rated cabinet knob is the better call. Where a property manager is finishing a high-end unit or a model, the solid brass build holds up fine.
