Baldwin Estate 4704 1" Diameter Classic Knob

Five: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 112 Venetian Bronze, and 190 Satin Black. Two of those behave very differently over time. Non-Lacquered Brass (031) is left unprotected and will darken and patina with handling, which is what you want if you're matching aged brass elsewhere in the room. Satin Brass PVD (044) is a physical vapor deposition coat and holds its color. Polished Brass (003) is lacquered for a bright, stable finish.

One model in one finish code will, since the 4704 is a single 1 inch size, so every piece lands identically on the face and there's no size axis to get wrong. The only decision is the finish, and there are five. Skip 031 Non-Lacquered Brass for a fleet job unless you want each unit aging at its own rate, since that finish is left bare and changes with handling. The lacquered and PVD options hold their appearance, which is what keeps a later partial replacement matching the originals.

Brass is the substrate. The 4704 is nickel-plated brass, so the body is a cast brass knob with plating over it rather than zinc die-cast. That's what keeps the threaded boss from stripping when a screw is driven hard, and it's why the unlacquered version can patina at all.

Baldwin classes the 4704 as residential. For a house, a condo, or a light-traffic unit turnover it's the right grade of product. For a commercial kitchen, a school casework job, or anywhere the doors get opened hundreds of times a day, specify hardware rated for that duty instead.

Yes, and it's the usual approach: knobs on the upper doors, pulls on the drawers. The 4704 is a 1 inch classic-profile knob in the Estate Series, so pair it with Estate Series pulls in the same finish code (003, 031, 044, 112, or 190) and the plating and profile language will read as one set. Matching the number, not just the color name, is what keeps the finish consistent.
