Both. Baldwin lists the 5056 passage rose for building tubular passage sets as well as mortise sectional entry sets. That makes it usable whether the door is prepped for a bored tubular latch or for a mortise case, but the lock body and latch are not part of the rose order.

No, and that is the point of it. 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is a living finish that darkens and patinas with handling over time. The PVD finishes, including 003 Polished Brass PVD, 044 Satin Brass PVD, 055 Polished Nickel PVD and 056 Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel, are plated coatings that hold their appearance. Do not mix 031 with a PVD brass on doors in the same sightline unless you want them to drift apart in color.
8) I have a lever I like but the rose on the door is damaged. Can I just buy the rose?
Yes. The 5056 is sold as the rose assembly on its own, so a single damaged or scratched rose can be replaced with the half pair without touching the lever or the latch. It includes the backplate and retainer needed to remount it. Match the Baldwin finish number on the surviving side so the two faces agree.
