Baldwin 5097009N – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the Baldwin 5097009N and what part of the lockset does it replace?
The 5097009N is an active trim back plate, a Baldwin replacement part that sits behind the lever trim on the active side of the door. It is a component part rather than a complete lockset, so it will not add latching or locking function on its own. It belongs to Baldwin's Estate Series and is a residential part.
2) Will the Baldwin 5097009N back plate fit my Baldwin Reserve or commercial-grade lock?
It's an Estate Series part, and Baldwin builds Estate separately from its other lines. Treat it as an Estate replacement only. It is also catalogued residential, so it is not the part to specify for a commercial opening under a Grade 1 or Grade 2 spec.
3) What size is the Baldwin 5097009N active trim back plate?
One size only, 1-1/2 inches. That's the single option offered, so there is nothing to specify beyond the model number when ordering. Measure the plate you are replacing before you order, since Baldwin trim parts are not interchangeable across sizes.
4) I'm a property manager replacing worn Baldwin lever trim on several doors. Is this the whole trim assembly?
No. The 5097009N covers just the active trim back plate, the plate behind the lever. If the lever itself, the rose, or the latch is worn you will need those pieces separately. For a fleet of Estate Series doors it's a sensible standardizing part, since the 1-1/2 inch size is the only one made for it.
