Baldwin 5099004 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Baldwin 5099004 and what job does it do?
The 5099004 is the mounting plate that a Baldwin Estate escutcheon full dummy handle set attaches to. It is the hidden plate that fastens to the door face and gives the dummy trim something to anchor on, since a dummy has no latch or spindle running through the door. It measures 1-1/5 inch in diameter and is made of stainless steel.
2) Will the Baldwin 5099004 mounting plate work with any Baldwin lever, or only the Estate line?
It is an Estate Series part, made for Estate escutcheon full dummy trim. Baldwin's Reserve and Prestige lines use their own rose and plate hardware, so don't plan on this one dropping into a different collection. Match the plate to Estate escutcheon dummies.
3) Does the Baldwin 5099004 come with a latch or work as a functioning handle?
No latch, no spindle, no bore hardware. This is a mounting plate only, sold as a replacement part for full dummy trim. A full dummy is fixed and non-turning, so if the door needs to latch you want a passage or privacy set, not dummy trim plus this plate.
4) Is this Baldwin part rated for commercial door traffic?
No. The 5099004 is catalogued for residential use. For apartment turns, single-family, or interior closet and french door dummy trim it is the right part, but a high-traffic commercial opening should be specified with commercial-grade trim instead.
5) What size is the Baldwin 5099004 mounting plate?
One size only, 1-1/5 inch diameter. That is the only option offered, so there is no size decision to make when ordering, but measure the existing plate behind your Estate escutcheon if you are replacing a damaged one.
6) Will a stainless steel mounting plate corrode on a coastal or humid-location door?
The plate itself is stainless steel, which handles humidity better than plain steel. It is a residential-duty part and sits behind the escutcheon rather than exposed, so the finished-surface decision stays with the escutcheon trim you pair it with.
