Baldwin 5399003D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Baldwin 5399 Kit D work on a 2 inch thick door?
Kit D is the thick door kit for doors 2 inches to 2-1/4 inches thick, so a 2 inch door is right at the bottom of its range. Standard Baldwin handleset hardware is built around thinner doors, so if your door falls in this 2 to 2-1/4 inch band you need this kit to make the handleset mount and operate correctly.
2) The product name says dummy handlesets but the description says entrance function. Which is it?
Order by door thickness and by the handleset family you own. The 5399 Kit D is the Estate Series thick door kit for 2 to 2-1/4 inch doors, and it applies to sectional and escutcheon single cylinder entrance function handlesets and evolved products. Match the kit letter to your measured door thickness first, then the handleset series.
3) Is the Baldwin 5399 kit brass or plated steel?
Brass. That matters for the non-lacquered brass option (031), which is a living finish and will patina over time, while the PVD finishes (003 Polished Brass, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel) hold their appearance.
4) Is this Baldwin thick door kit suitable for a commercial opening?
It is a residential product in Baldwin's Estate Series. For a commercial entry, especially anything on a rated or high traffic opening, you want commercial grade lock hardware rather than an Estate Series residential handleset kit.
