Baldwin 6340003R – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Baldwin 6340 ASA strike work with my 2-3/8 inch backset latch?
No. The Baldwin 6340 latch and deadbolt strike is made for latches with a 1-1/2, 2, or 2-1/2 inch backset. A 2-3/8 inch backset latch, the common residential bore backset, is outside that range. Check the backset stamped on your latch face before ordering.
2) Is the Baldwin 6340 handed, and which hand does it cover?
Handing matters here. The 6340 is the right hand version, supplied as Right Hand Reverse. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right and the door swings away from you, that's right hand. Order the left hand equivalent if your opening is the opposite.
3) What does 1-1/4 inch lip to center mean on this Baldwin strike?
Lip to center is measured from the face of the frame to the middle of the strike's curved lip, and on the 6340 it is 1-1/4 inches. That dimension has to clear your door stop and jamb trim so the latch rides up the lip instead of catching on it. Measure from the frame face to the door face at the stop and compare.
4) Does one Baldwin 6340 strike handle both the latch and the deadbolt?
Yes, it is a combination latch and deadbolt strike, so a single ASA plate takes both the latchbolt from the lever set and the deadbolt above it. That means one mortise cut in the jamb rather than two separate strikes.
5) Is the Baldwin 6340 strike rated for commercial door traffic?
Baldwin lists the 6340 as a residential product within the Estate Series. For apartment entries, single-family, and light multi-family interiors it is the right part; for a high-traffic commercial opening a buyer should be specifying commercial-grade strike hardware instead.
6) What is the Baldwin 6340 strike made of, and will it match my other Estate Series trim?
Brass, finished in 003 Polished Brass PVD. PVD is a plated finish that holds its color, and the 003 code is the same one Baldwin uses across Estate Series trim, so it will match polished brass levers and deadbolts already on your other doors.
7) I just need a replacement strike plate, not a whole lock. Is the Baldwin 6340 sold on its own?
Yes. The 6340 is the strike itself, a jamb-side part, not a lockset. Order it when the original strike is damaged, the finish has worn, or a jamb repair left you short a plate. You will still need the latch and deadbolt from the lock side.
