1) Does the Baldwin Estate 5002 rosette come with the knob or lever, or do I order those separately?
The 5002 rose ships with either one or two roses, the matching backplate, and the retainer or retainers that hold the rose to the door. Knobs, levers, the latch, and any adaptors are separate line items. So a complete opening is at minimum three orders: the 5002 rose in the finish you want, the knob or lever, and the latch.
2) What is the difference between the Pair and Half Pair option on the Baldwin 5002 passage rose?
Pair gets you roses for both faces of the door. Half Pair is a single rose for one face. Order the pair when you are trimming a normal passage door that gets a knob or lever on each side; order the half pair when you only need one side, such as a half dummy application or replacing one damaged rose on an existing opening. Both types are offered in all fourteen finishes, from 003 Polished Brass PVD through 402 Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze.
3) Can I use the Baldwin 5002 passage rose on a privacy door with a thumbturn?
No. The 5002 passage rose is built for passage function, and Baldwin sells a separate privacy rose for tubular privacy sets. Passage roses are used to build tubular passage sets or mortise sectional entry sets. If the door is a bath or bedroom that needs to lock, ask for the 5002 privacy rose instead of the passage version.
4) Is the Baldwin Estate 5002 rose suitable for a commercial building or an apartment turn job?
Baldwin classes the Estate 5002 rose as residential hardware. It is a good match for single family homes, condos, and higher end multi-family interiors. For a commercial corridor or anything where you need a graded, cycle-tested lockset, this is not the trim to spec.

6) What is a door rosette actually for, and do I need one if I am just replacing a knob?
The rose is the round trim plate that sits between the knob or lever and the door face, covering the bore and carrying the retainer that anchors the trim. It is not the lock. If your existing roses are sound and you are only swapping the knob, you may not need them, but if you are changing finish, the roses have to change with the knobs or the opening will read as two different metals. The 5002 rose is a forged brass ring design in the Estate Series.
7) Can the Baldwin 5002 passage rose be used to build a dummy door set?
For a full or half dummy set, order the 5002 dummy rose rather than the passage version. Baldwin splits the 5002 into passage, privacy, and dummy roses, and the dummy roses are the ones used to create tubular full or half dummy sets. A half pair dummy rose is what you want on a single fixed door such as a closet or a pantry pull side.
8) Will the Baldwin 5002 passage rose work with a mortise entry set or only tubular hardware?
Both. The passage rose can be used to build a tubular passage set, and it also works as trim on a mortise sectional entry set. That is worth knowing on a front door project where the exterior is a mortise sectional handleset and you want the interior trim to match the rest of the house.
