Baldwin 5057003PRIV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Baldwin 5057 privacy set come with a key, or just the push-button lock?
It's a privacy function, the bed and bath setup: thumbturn or button locks from inside, with an emergency release from the hall side, and no keyed cylinder. If you need a key on a bedroom or office door, a privacy set is the wrong function to order.
2) Can I match Baldwin 5057 privacy knobs to passage doors and closets in the same house?
Yes, that's how the Estate line is built. The same 5057 knob style is offered as complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy and Half Dummy sets, so bedrooms and baths get privacy, hall and pantry doors get passage, and a closet or false door gets a dummy, all with the same knob and 5048 rose. Order the same finish code across the run and the openings read identically.
3) Is the Baldwin Estate 5057 knob rated for commercial use in an office building or apartment corridor?
It's a residential-duty product. Forged brass Estate trim is built for homes and high-end interiors, not for the cycle counts of a commercial corridor or a code-driven opening. For multi-family common areas or office doors, spec a commercial-grade cylindrical lockset instead and keep the Estate knobs for unit interiors.
4) What finishes does the Baldwin 5057 privacy knob come in?
Eleven: 003 Polished Brass, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 044 Satin Brass, 055 Polished Nickel, 056 Satin Nickel, 076 Graphite Nickel, 102 Oil-Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 190 Satin Black and 260 Polished Chrome. Two of those change over time on purpose: 031 Non-Lacquered Brass is unprotected and will darken with handling, and 102 Oil-Rubbed Bronze is a living finish that wears through at contact points. If you want the knob to look the same in five years as it does on delivery, pick a lacquered or plated option.
5) I'm replacing a bathroom knob and need the correct drilling for a Baldwin 5057 privacy set.
Baldwin publishes a drilling instruction drawing for the 5057, linked from the product documentation, and that's the sheet to work from for the bore and prep. The set is a bored cylindrical lock, so it goes into a standard round door prep rather than a mortise pocket, which is why it swaps cleanly onto most existing interior doors.
6) Can I mix the 5057 knob with a lever on the other side of the door?
Baldwin sells Estate knobs and levers as pairs or as individual pieces, and they are meant to be mixed with roses to build the look you want. So a knob on one face and a lever on the other, or knobs on the interior with handle set trim on an entry, is a supported combination within the Estate line. The 5057.PRIV set as ordered is the pre-configured privacy pairing with the 5048 rose.
