Baldwin 5399030C – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What door thickness does the Baldwin 5399C thick door kit cover?
The 5399C kit handles doors from 2 inches to 2-1/4 inches thick. Standard Baldwin Estate emergency egress handlesets are built for a thinner door, so once your slab measures 2 inches or more you need this kit to make the spindles and fasteners reach. If your door is under 2 inches, this is the wrong kit letter for the job.
2) What exactly is the Baldwin 5399C, a complete handleset or just parts?
It is a parts kit, not a lockset. The 5399C supplies the longer mechanics (spindles and mounting hardware) needed to install a Baldwin Estate emergency egress handleset on a thick door. You still order the handleset itself separately; this kit only adapts it to the thicker slab.
3) Will the Baldwin 5399C work with any Baldwin handleset?
No. It is made for Baldwin Estate series emergency egress handlesets. Other Baldwin lines, and non-egress Estate handlesets, use different mechanics, so confirm your handleset is an Estate emergency egress model before ordering this kit.
4) Is the Baldwin 5399C thick door kit suitable for a commercial opening?
Baldwin classes the 5399C as residential hardware. For a commercial entry or an opening with code-driven egress requirements, spec a commercial-grade lockset and trim instead. On high-end homes, custom 2 inch to 2-1/4 inch entry doors are exactly what this kit is for.
5) What is the Baldwin 5399C kit made of?
Brass and steel. The brass components match the plated finish of the handleset trim, and the steel carries the working load of the spindle and fasteners through the thicker door.
