Baldwin 5399003N – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a Baldwin 5399N mechanics repair kit actually used for?
It is the internal mechanism repair kit for Baldwin Estate emergency egress handlesets fitted with levers, not a complete handleset. You buy it to rebuild the working guts of a handleset already hanging on the door, keeping the existing escutcheons and levers. Kit N specifically covers the emergency egress lever configuration.
2) Will the Baldwin 5399N kit work on any Baldwin handleset, or only Estate?
Estate Series only, and only the emergency egress handlesets that use levers. Baldwin's Estate line is its own mechanical platform, so a Reserve or Prestige handleset is not a match for this kit.
3) What finishes does the Baldwin Estate 5399N repair kit come in?
Two: 003 Polished Brass PVD and 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze. Order the code that matches the handleset you are repairing, since Baldwin uses those same numbers across the Estate line and any exposed kit parts need to sit next to your existing trim without a color break.
4) Is the Baldwin 5399N kit rated for commercial door traffic?
Baldwin lists the 5399N as a residential product. For a high-traffic commercial opening, apartment entry corridor, or an institutional door on a maintenance cycle, spec commercial-grade hardware instead. It suits single-family and low-traffic residential entries where an Estate handleset is already installed.
5) Does the Baldwin 5399N include the levers and escutcheon plates?
No. The 5399N is a mechanics repair kit, meaning the mechanism components only. Your existing Estate levers and trim stay on the door, which is why matching the finish code matters and why this is a repair rather than a replacement purchase.
