Baldwin 5445V003RMR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the Pair, Half Pair and Pair (PINNED) options on the Baldwin 5445V lever?
Four choices. A Pair gives you both levers for a two-sided opening. Half Pair, Left Hand and Half Pair, Right Hand give you a single lever, which is what you want for a half dummy or to replace one damaged side. Pair (PINNED) is the pinned version of the two-lever set. Order the half pair only when you know the hand of the door you are trimming.
2) Can I use the Baldwin 5445V lever on commercial doors in an office or apartment building?
Baldwin lists the Estate Series 5445V as residential hardware. For interior doors in a single family home, a model unit or a high-end multifamily interior it fits the intent. For a commercial opening where a graded, cycle-rated lockset is specified on the drawings, this is the wrong family and you should be looking at commercial lever trim instead.
3) I need a single left-hand lever to replace one damaged handle, not a full pair. What are my options?
Two handed single-lever options exist. The Baldwin Estate 5445V Classic Lever is ordered as a Half Pair, Left Hand or Half Pair, Right Hand, so you can buy just the one side you need, and it is also available as a Pair or Pair (PINNED) if you later want to change out both sides. The Imperial USA TH1100 Series lever handle is also offered as a left hand handle. The Baldwin 5445V is an Estate Series residential lever supplied without rose or escutcheon, so plan on reusing or separately specifying the rose trim.
4) What finishes does the Baldwin 5445V Classic lever come in?
Fifteen: Polished Brass PVD (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass PVD (044), Satin Brass Black (050), Polished Nickel PVD (055), Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel (056), Satin Brass Brown (060), Lifetime PVD Graphite Nickel (076), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112), Antique Nickel (151), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260) and Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze (402). If you are matching other Baldwin trim already on the doors, match by the three digit code rather than the finish name.
5) Will the Baldwin Estate 5445V lever match Baldwin knobs already installed elsewhere in the house?
Yes, that is the point of the Estate trim program. Baldwin knobs and levers are sold as pairs or individuals and mix and match with roses, so you can run levers on the doors people use most and keep knobs elsewhere, all in the same finish code. Match the finish number across the pieces and the look stays consistent.
6) Can the Baldwin 5445V lever be used on a mortise lock instead of a tubular set?
Yes. Baldwin lists this Classic lever as trim that can be combined with handle set trim or escutcheon plates to customize a mortise lock set, as well as with roses for interior passage and privacy sets. The lever itself is the handle only, so the lock body and plate are separate line items.
7) Is there a simpler lever option if I don't need the Baldwin Estate styling?
The Imperial USA TH1100 Series lever handle is the plainer alternative we carry, and it is sold in a left hand single as well. It is a straightforward lever handle without the Classic curve detailing and the solid brass Estate construction. For rental turns or back-of-house doors where the look matters less, it is the easier spec; for a finished interior where the trim is on display, the 5445V is the one being asked for.
8) Can I build a privacy or passage set from the Baldwin 5445V lever?
Yes, and that is the common way it is ordered. The Classic lever is offered in Quick Ship as part of complete Passage, Privacy, Full Dummy or Half Dummy sets. Buying the lever on its own means you are assembling the set yourself, so you also need the matching roses and the passage or privacy mechanism.
9) Which lever handle should I choose if I am trying to match existing decorative brass trim across a house?
The Baldwin Estate 5445V Classic Lever is the finish-matching choice. It is an Estate Series lever in solid brass construction, offered in 15 finishes including 003 Polished Brass PVD, 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, 033 Vintage Brass, 102 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 112 Venetian Bronze, 055 Polished Nickel PVD, 190 Satin Black and 260 Polished Chrome, so you can carry one finish across passage, privacy, full dummy and half dummy sets. The Imperial USA TH1100 Series lever handle is a separate series and would be matched on its own terms rather than to Baldwin Estate trim.
10) Is a lever handle the same thing as a complete lockset?
No. The Baldwin Estate 5445V Classic Lever is the handle only, supplied with no rose or escutcheon, and is intended to be combined with roses for interior passage and privacy sets or with handleset trim and escutcheon plates on mortise lock sets. The Imperial USA TH1100 Series left hand lever is likewise a lever handle rather than a packaged lockset. If you need a working latching mechanism, order the lock or latch separately and use either lever as the trim.
11) What is the Baldwin 5445V lever made of?
Solid brass, which is what Baldwin Estate hardware is built from and why the lever has weight in the hand compared to plated zinc or hollow trim. It also means the finish is applied over brass, including the PVD finishes like 003 Polished Brass PVD and 056 Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel.
