Baldwin 5520102 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What backset does the Baldwin Estate 5520 passage latch use?
The Estate 5520 is a 2-3/8 inch backset passage latch, meaning the center of the knob bore sits 2-3/8 inches from the door edge. That is the standard residential backset on most interior doors. If your existing bore measures 2-3/4 inches from the edge, this latch will not reach the hole and you need the 2-3/4 inch backset version instead.
2) Will the Baldwin Estate 5520 latch fit my existing latch mortise in the door edge?
The faceplate on the 5520 measures 1 inch by 2-1/4 inches, which is the common residential latch face size. If the mortise cut in your door edge matches that footprint, it drops in. A wider or square-corner mortise from a different maker will need patching or re-routing.
3) Is the Baldwin 5520 a complete knob set or just the latch?
The 5520 is the latch component, supplied with its T strike. Knobs, roses and spindles are separate Estate Series trim. Buy it when you are replacing a failed or wrong-backset latch behind knobs you are keeping, or when you need to build up a set.
4) What finishes can I get the Baldwin Estate 5520 latch in to match my other doors?
Eleven finishes: Polished Brass PVD (003), Non-Lacquered Brass (031), Vintage Brass (033), Satin Brass and Black (050), Polished Nickel PVD (055), Lifetime PVD Satin Nickel (056), Oil Rubbed Bronze (102), Venetian Bronze (112), Satin Black (190), Polished Chrome (260) and Satin Chrome (264). Order by the Baldwin finish number so the latch face and strike match the knob trim already on your other openings.
5) What is the Baldwin Estate 5520 made of?
Brass and steel construction. The brass carries the plated or living finish on the exposed faceplate and strike, with steel in the latch mechanism.
